About me
In 2001, I served as Steering Committee Chair for Hospitality & Tourism Futures, an alliance of over 200 businesses, all the major industry associations, institutions, agencies and individuals, which provided the input for the very beginning of Skill Standards and Career Clusters. Our focus was to ensure our industry was included in education & training since it is a major tax revenue generator and collector and with so many people employed as well. I represented then and am currently President Emeritus of the International Food Service Executives Assn., (IFSEA) founded in 1901 and certifying since the '60's, whose certifications include Certified Food Manager (CMS approved for nursing homes/LTC managers) and Certified Food Associate (targeting high school & post secondary, was in Florida's CAPE program for several years). Retired Navy officer, Cornell Hotel School grad., hospital food service director for 30+ years. We also represent the Global Foodservice Institute (GFI) which has 7 specialized courses leading to certifications. All IFSEA and GFI certifications are approved for the GI Bill. We have taught over 8000 students who earned over 11,000 certifications, with 2022 in-person classes at Camp David (Navy) and Wiesbaden, Germany (Army) and several world-wide Zoom classes, and there is a self-study option with PowerPoints and Zoom recordings. My passion is to change lives through increased opportunities for success with expanded resumes and knowledge for use in interviews and on-the-job. I teach homeless veterans for free, pay special attention to the junior military members in our classes, and have managed a number of volunteer organizations, and would like to be an active ACTE contributor. Looking to connect with states interested in adding hospitality management to culinary offerings. Our programs are packaged, ready-to-go, testing set up online or can be paper tests, we have been there, and done that, for decades and the industry needs workers.
